Hooked On Life: Todd Plummer of The Constant Editor

We’re always on the lookout for fresh finds from across the blogosphere, especially where style is concerned. So when we stumbled upon The Constant Editor, our interest was piqued to say the least.

Todd Plummer, the Montreal-based blogger behind this fab find, dishes on everything from food to fashion, restos and music in his slice of cyberspace. The common thread? Must. Be. Fabulous.

We sat down with the Boston ex-pat to get his take on eyewear, style icons, winter must-haves and more in this edition of Hooked On Life!

How would you describe your sense of style? I dress for my mood. Sometimes that means dressing up in a three-piece suit, and sometimes it means finding a chic way to wear sweatpants. Lately I’ve been really into finding stylish and smart ways to dress comfortably.

Who are your style icons? Steve McQueen, Riccardo Tisci, and any of the ladies from Advanced Style. I’m all about people that trust in their style and completely commit themselves to a look.

What do you look when shopping for eyewear? I look for a strong profile that complements my face and doesn’t compete with it. It’s also important that I be able to have a frame that will go with my outfits when I am dressed up or dressed down.

What’s your go-to glasses shape? Rectangular, with a thick tortoise frame.

What are your must-have winter items? It’s all about a well-fitting peacoat, insulated for the Montreal winter. I also just picked up these fingerless gloves so now I can continuously text and tweet when I’m walking outdoors.

What are you hooked on right now? I absolutely cannot wait for the Prada and Schiaparelli exhibition at the Met in New York next year. Also, I need to get my hands on a pair of Mark McNairy chukka boots – the neon soles are so fresh and modern.

If you’re a blog-savvy Montrealer, then you’ve probably heard of this self-proclaimed fashionista. With a penchant for pin-up flare, pop culture and haute couture, Robyn Chalmers blogs about all things beautiful, luxe and Montreal-based in her little slice of cyberspace, Fashionista 514.

We sat down with this porcelain beauty to get her take on style, beauty and everything in between.

How would you describe your sense of style? Impulsive but classic with a silver lining of funk. I love playing with contrasting colours and paying attention to detail in subtle ways. Rock ‘n’ roll elements are always present, but in a minimalist tone. Ladylike will always reign for special occasions and go-to essentials.

Who are your style icons? Isabella Blow, Katharine Hepburn, Jane Russel, Gwen Stefani and Tom Ford.

Beauty icons? Marilyn Monroe, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Lindsey Wixon and Sasha Pivovarova.

What do you look for when shopping for eyewear? Something versatile that fits the shape of my face well. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bought frames that I loved the look of but never ended up wearing merely because of comfort or matching factors. I’m really looking for the whole package in a very tailored, timeless sense.

How do you unwind after a long day of blogging? I’ve kind of been in hibernation mode lately, so every creature comfort from tea, movies, biographies, baths, sleeping in and making fresh elaborate feasts have been on my radar as of late. I’m currently fixed on reorganizing and simplifying my life from every angle to be my most productive, zen self. Blogging is a treat for me, so the writing itself is what I look forward to – it’s what keeps me balanced and calm.

Fysh Facts: What you need to know about sizing your frames

In a perfect world, we imagine you’d be able to waltz into your favorite glasses shop, point to the pair you like best, put them on and walk out in eyeglass bliss. But in reality, it takes a tad more effort to get your hands on the pair with the perfect fit for your face (hence that tedious waiting period we all go through before we can don our brand spankin’ new specs).

What’s the key to that coveted perfect fit, you ask? Why, it’s all in the measurements! No two faces are exactly alike, which means that adjusting frames to fit your specific measurements is crucial. There are three main components to this all-important equation: eye, bridge and temple. No idea what your measurements might be? Look no further than your current set of specs. Chances are, your stats are all etched into the inner arm or nose bridge of your frames.

Hooked On Life: Patrick L’Aristocrate

If you happen to find your way into one of Montreal’s exclusive fashion events, chances are you’ll spot this bespectacled blogger sporting one of his signature bowties. Patrick L’Aristocrate is a mainstay in the Montreal blogger community for his men’s fashion blog, Je Suis…L’Aristocrate, and his always-on-point style. We caught up with this man about town to talk style, specs and what he’s hooked on right now:

How would you define your personal style?
My style is mix of classic and urban, with a twist! I create looks with great basic pieces and jazz things up with funky or chic accessories, like an edgy pair of glasses, a couture bow tie or a vintage leather bag. I try to wear local designers as much as I can.

Who are your style icons?
James Dean, Gregory Peck, Lenny Kravitz, Ryan Gosling, Tom Ford and Yves St-Laurent.

Where do you look to for inspiration?
Everywhere! Just taking a walk in the city I can find inspiration! I read fashion/style blogs, buy magazines and surf the web constantly. I’m always on the look out for something great!

Describe the first pair of glasses you owned:
I’ve been wearing glasses since I was a kid, and back in the 80s the trend was large square golden wire frames with a touch of color! I know you’re just dying to see me wearing those but we’ll skip that part if you don’t mind!

What do you look for when shopping for eyewear?
Bold is the word! I prefer shape and texture over trendy glasses.

What are you hooked on right now?
By now, I think everyone knows that I’m a fan of bow ties in any material – velvet, studded, ceramic… Aside from that, I’m hooked on Misfits, a miniseries where a group of young people have superpowers. I also confess to being a Food Network addict, probably because I wish I could cook!

How do you unwind after a long day of blogging?
When I’m not blogging, you’ll find me having drinks with friends, shopping or watching a scary movie.
